He Clung To Her, Even In Her Despondency

A$380.00

"He Clung To Her, Even In Her Despondency" is an artwork that aims to capture the conundrum of helping those who are experiencing depression.

Sometimes when the of cloud depression starts to fog our minds, we're unable to pin point why it is that we feel this way. We become absorbed in a state of self-inflicted mental isolation, which is fenced within invisible walls that become impossible for others to break through.

The beings that sit outside the invisible wall feel incapacitated as they try to get through the impenetrable walls. Often they feel defeated and helpless because they are unable to provide the consolation and support that might help relieve the dark cloud that hangs over their loved one. The chameleon in this artwork represents all those people who sit outside the invisible walls.

The Chameleon clings to her, in an effort to console her from the darkness that fills her mind, yet she is numb to the Chameleons touch. The blank expression on her face is impervious to the kindness that he tries to provide. As she blends into the background, he is unable to absorb her colour and demonstrate that he feels her pain and is there to console her.

This artwork is part of a series called 'Quirky tales' which explores surreal scenarios between animals and other creatures that inhabit the earth. Sometimes it's flora, sometimes bugs, sometimes feathered or fury creatures or the mysterious beings that live under the sea.

Each artwork starts up as an idea in my brain, inspired by a wide variety of stimuli. I'm often triggered by words and sentences from poems, books or everyday conversations. Sometimes the ideas come to me in my sleep or visions when I meditate. And many ideas evolve from visual material that I collect.

The artwork was drawn on an iPad using Procreate and an Apple Pencil. What starts its life as a digital drawing, often evolves into other art forms including: oil paintings, Lino or etched prints and sometimes animations to be sold as an NFT/Crypto art.
